The process
of identifying a career that is a good fit does not come easily for
most people. For many it is necessary to revisit the career exploration
process several times during our working lives.
Career Development Services has a number of resources that may be
helpful.
Vocational Testing On-line
Vocational tests do not provide answers; however, they may be an excellent way to open the conversation of which direction to pursue. They may also reconfirm what you know to be true about yourself. Call (206) 764-5304 for more information.
For a fee of $30 each for students and $100 for non-students, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory can be taken on-line. The fee includes one hour of career counseling/interpretation for each assessment. To arrange to take the test you must call one of our career counselors. (206) 764-5387 After you have spoken with a career counselor and received your password, please visit Vocational testing for directions on taking these tests on-line.
Software
There is a number of software systems designed to help you ask the important questions that may lead you to a career direction. Two possibilities are:
- Washington Occupational Information System (www.wois.org) which is accessible in the WorkSource Computer Lab. The WOIS website allows the job seeker to build a portfolio and fill it with possible career choices and available school and program information. You will also be able to access labor and market information, wage and job opening projections, and other statistical information that is valuable when making career decisions.
- Choices is another user friendly career assessment program the WorkSource offers people who are trying to make an informed career change decision.
Both of these web-based programs are available during business hours as part of the self-serve, free offerings in the SSCC WorkSource Affiliate.
